OVERTURE

Takamura has been interested in management and business since his university days. After graduation, he led the growth of Cyber Buzz Inc., a social media marketing company, as its CEO. He is not only committed to the development of his own company, but also to nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs, and as an alumnus of Aoyama Gakuin University, he fully cooperates with the School of School of Business Workshop. He generously shares his own experiences at the forefront of management with his juniors at his alma mater, providing practical guidance. He is working hard on various initiatives with an eye on the future 100 years from now.

Having experienced the company's early days, he became fascinated with the joy of management

Influenced by my parents being self-employed, I wanted to study business and management in Tokyo, where cutting-edge information gathers, so I knocked on the door of Aoyama Gakuin University School of Business. After enrolling, I tried to balance my studies with part-time work every day. While studying business management at university, I also got to experience real business through part-time work. The four years I spent learning about the structure of society from various angles are an invaluable asset. I feel that this college life was made possible because Aoyama Gakuin University respects the students' desire to learn and their spirit of challenge.

After graduating from university and gaining experience at a trading company, I moved to CyberAgent, Inc., which had just been founded. The founder of the company, Susumu Fujita, was my senior at Aoyama Gakuin University, and I was greatly impressed by his words, "I will change Japan with the power of youth and the Internet." Since I have been proactive since my student days, I had a desire to "achieve something that only I can do." At the time, CyberAgent had only about five employees, and I remember being inspired to grow the company with my own efforts. I focused on launching an Internet advertising business. It was a great opportunity to put into practice the theories of business management that I had deepened in university, such as business development methods and organizational management. Before I knew it, I was fascinated by the fun and depth of management.

The turning point came around 2007, when the spread of smartphones meant that information dissemination by individuals began to have a greater influence. At the time, CyberAgent operated Cyber Buzz, a subsidiary that specialized in blog-based marketing, and witnessed the rise of influencers. Convinced that "promotion using social media will become mainstream in the future," and determined to expand and develop the business himself, he volunteered to become CEO in 2010. Up until now, the company has been developing its core business in social media marketing centered on influencers, using platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and YouTube. There were days when it was difficult to increase sales, but after much trial and error, in 2019, the company was able to achieve its goal of listing (on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers Market (now the Growth Market)).

Stories of failure and hardship in the early days of venture business management: what can only be learned from "reality"

In my daily work, I try not to forget that opportunities lie hidden within difficulties. Even when I'm planning a new business, I don't get intimidated by the high barriers to entry, but rather take on the challenge with an aggressive attitude, knowing that I can create new value because no one else has done it before.

As I gained experience as a manager, I began to strongly feel that "I want the world to have more people who are not afraid Aoyama change and are able to take on challenges." Aoyama Business Association" he learned that many of his seniors working at the forefront of society shared the same thoughts, and decided to put into action a long-held idea that he had, "There must be something I can contribute to nurturing human resources capable of generating innovation." Hoping to encourage students who are interested in starting their own businesses and running venture companies by sharing his own real-life experiences with current students in School of Business School of Business, he started "School of Business Business Workshop He proposed the idea to the university and also served as a lecturer there.

Although university classes provide systematic knowledge of business theory, it is also true that there are some things that can only be learned through actual experience. I conveyed the joy of business management by sharing real information, such as stories of failures and difficulties in the early days of business management. I feel that I was able to provide dense information that only I can share, which is a little different from regular classroom lectures. More students than I expected attended the lecture, and it was a valuable opportunity for me to experience their passion and motivated attitude. Another great benefit was learning that in today's world, where work styles are diversifying and a wide range of information is easily accessible, young people are becoming more interested in starting their own ventures. I would be happy if this workshop can help them realize their dreams and achieve their goals.

"Good Ancestor" is the foundation of all our efforts

How should we act now to be "good ancestors" for our future descendants? There is a concept called "Good Ancestor" that preaches the need to shift from short-term to long-term thinking, and this is a concept that I value in my life. Rather than just pursuing the development and profits of our own company, we should seriously think about what we can do for society at large. Nurturing young entrepreneurs is also part of this. I hope that through actions taken by ourselves, such as the workshop mentioned above, many people who will create a better world in the future will be born.

In corporate management, one person alone cannot achieve a goal. As a leader, I think the most rewarding part is the process of drawing out the vision and society I want to create and creating people who empathize with it. To achieve this, I spend every day exploring what I can do for society and the environment under the concept of "Good Ancestors." With an eye on the future, 100 or 200 years from now, I will continue to do my best to contribute to the realization of a richer world.
